The Black Marker triggers a Convergence Event by creating a Brethren Moon. The aliens build Red Markers across the planet's surface in the hopes of harboring more energy for their uses. The alien inhabitants of Tau Volantis discover a Black Marker. Mercer survived for so long, story wise the marker knew he was speeding up convergence so kept him alive to further that goal, Hammond survived by himself for a while so did Kendra, and Kendra didn’t have a weapon either, so having Cross live as long as she did does fit the narrative, and having her be the physical body of Nicole makes even more sense, since it would be impossible for a hallucination to interact with the environment and open a door for Isaac.05 February 2013 2 million years ago 
The marker messes with peoples heads, and makes them hallucinate in different ways, Kyne saw his wife and was having conversations with her, despite her not actually being there, I can’t exactly follow your logic of how did she survive, look at Jacob temple even in the original game, he survived without a suit like Isaac, and in the remake he pretty much only had a force gun.
